This class of insurance is specially designed for civil engineering projects/works i.e. dwelling houses, multi-storey buildings, hospitals, factories, bridges, sewer systems, roads, etc. that are under construction.
Standard Cover
Section I - Material Damage
Covers unforeseen and sudden physical loss or damage to insured items during the course of their construction from whatever cause not specifically excluded. Coverage include:
o Lack of skill
o Carelessness
o Malicious damage
o Incorrect supervision
o Storm & Flooding
o Theft
o Fire, lightning & explosion Earthquake & landslide
o Other perils resulting from acts of nature
Section II - Third Party Liability
Covers Insured's legal liability to third parties, up to the amount of indemnity selected in respect of:
(a) accidental bodily injury
(b) loss or damage to property
Extra Cover Upon Request
o Strike, Riot and Civil Commotion
o Underground cables, pipes and other facilities
o Vibration, Removal or Weakening of Support
o Consultants as Third Parties
o Extra Charges
o Professional Fees
o Sub-contracts
Some Common Exclusions
The following are not covered:
1. Faulty design, defective material or casting, bad workmanship, mechanical and/or electrical breakdown or derangement of construction plant, equipment and construction machinery.
2. Cost of replacement, repair or rectification of any deficiencies in the contract works.
3. Any consequential loss e.g. claims from penalties, losses due to delay, lack of performance, loss of contract, total or partial cessation of work.
4. War, radioactivity, riot, civil commotion, willful act or negligence of Insured or representatives
